The Salvage Operation

Our Search & Salvage teams assess, plan and manage our projects accordingly.

Each individual target is assessed upon its research, survey results, geographical location, and environmental conditions where it lies. BGL then formulates the appropriate salvage plans and the specific equipment and tooling needed to conduct the salvage in an efficient and precise manner.

LOCATION

From its considerable research database, BGL has access to invaluable information such as cargo, wreck location, water depths and legal ownership. The circumstances of the sinking and location of the wreck are further confirmed by inquest reports and survivor accounts.

BGL charters the search and salvage charter vessels needed for the salvage and utilises the requisite industry standard search and survey technology. Once located, targets are multibeamed and visually surveyed.

Salvage & Recovery

Key to BGL’s success is having the appropriate platform from which to conduct operations. BGL charters the most suitable and cost-effective salvage vessels that meet the needs of each survey and salvage operation.

No two shipwrecks are the same. They can throw up various subsea engineering challenges of which many are unforeseen. The BGL team has considerable experience, knowledge, and success in meeting the challenges associated with shipwreck salvage.

Every project is meticulously planned and the appropriate equipment and tooling sourced. Vessels with DP (Dynamic Positioning), Work Class ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicle), suitable cranes, salvage tooling and sub-sea equipment are used. Beyond this, BGL is able to design and fabricate special tooling and equipment when required.

RESPECT

Britannia’s Gold Ltd treats each shipwreck on which it works with the utmost respect.

The targeted wrecks are not designated War Graves; however, all are treated as such. Specific non-military shipwrecks of a sensitive nature will remain untouched.

As a mark of respect, a commemorative plaque will be placed at each shipwreck location on completion of the salvage operations.
